Bite off more than you can chew.
Because once you do,
once that lump is in your mouth,
pressing against your cheeks and pushing against your teeth,
you’ll have to do something.
So maybe you’ll make it dance with your tongue,
sculpt something out of it which you can digest
bit by bit.
Or maybe you’ll swallow it whole.
It’ll hurt on the way down,
but it’ll get there in the end.
However…
you will never spit it out.
Not in front of all these people,
watching, staring, waiting
for you to fail.
Bite off more than you can chew,
because although it may hurt,
although it may taste unpleasant,
you’ll have finished dinner while they’re still
nibbling away
politely
on breakfast.
The petit thread that comes from your chosen moniker comes through in this piece, yet it also scrapes its feet against the universal too. It’s the smooth simplicity that kept me reading.
Thank You.
